Jury Duty Complete & July Christmas Card

Last week while we were on vacation at Lake Shasta I worked on my Christmas cards for this year. I make about a hundred and like to get them done during the summer.

I had jury duty at 8am on Tue, so I again worked on my Christmas cards while waiting for the jury selection process to begin. After waiting a couple hours, the judge informed us that the case wasn't going to trial and we were all dismissed. The good thing is that my jury duty obligation is fulfilled for at least a year.

This is a card I saw years ago. I finally own "Lovely as a Tree" so I decided to make it for our family card this year. First you stamp the tree image in white craft ink on night of navy cardstock, clean the stamp and then stamp it in night of navy ink on confetti white cardstock. I also stamped a splashed image and the greeting in navy. Tear off some off the white piece and layer it on the navy. Layer the navy on a white card. It's simple, but looks pretty cool. I was going to jazz it up a little with silver cord, but my husband liked it more "natural" (plain!).
The inside greeting is from a long retired set called "On Angel Wings" that I think goes well.

Isn't this a fun stamp to put on the back? Sorry the photo is a little blurry. I got this from a stamp store when I was up at my mon's. I'm usually to embarrassed to add it, but decided to this time.

Supplies:
sets - lovely as a tree, fundamental phrases, on angel wings, itty bitty backgrounds
cs - night of navy, whisper white (card base), confetti white
ink - white craft pad, night of navy classic pad

Bye, Bye, Birdie

One last birdie card. A couple weeks ago my son had an out of town soccer tournament and then we went to a friend's 50th birthday party. I wanted to make the friend an "over the hill" card instead of using a card on hand. Of course I didn't decide to do this until 15 minutes before we had to leave (6am, mind you!). I had my birdie set out from a class the previous day and I pulled out a very old SU set I have called "over the hill" and I pulled out my "under the stars" set since this friend is an outdoorsy guy. I got an idea of what I wanted to do (a "joy fold" card), grabbed cardstock and began stamping pieces. Since my 15 minutes was up I put the pieces in an envelope, grabbed scissors, adhesive, dimensionals and a few markers. Since we always have to arrive 1 hour early to the game, I just waited til we got to our destination before completing the card. I didn't have a camera with me and I had to leave the card at the party, so when I got home the next day I made a similar one (his had a yellow bird and i forgot the green marker, so the leaves weren't colored). Hope you like it! I'll sure miss my birdie set, but SU's new catalog starts July 1st at noon, wohoo!!!
Supplies:
sets - a little birdie told me, under the stars, over the hill
cs - basic black, tangerine tango, garder green, yo-yo yellow, whisper white
ink - basic black pad and only orange, green galore & yo-yo yellow markers
access - 1-1/4" circle and scallop circle punches, paper snips, dimensionals

Open House Postponed

I have to postpone my new Catalog Open House due to the death of my husband's grandma. She led a good, long life (95 years) and was ready to depart. Her funeral will be Thur, 7/2. I also have to report for jury duty at 8:30am tomorrow (6/30) and I will tell them about the funeral.

I have a technique class using some product from the new catalog on Thur, 7/9 from 9am to noon. See my business website for more details. I still haven't received the new catalogs and hope they get here soon!

I am hoping to have the Open House on Fri 7/17 and/or Sat 7/18. What's your preference? Leave me a comment and let me know.

I wanted to post a card, but my posts section is a little weird tonight and not allowing it, sorry.

I will give you an update on June 30th or July 1st as soon as I know more about the jury duty. Please bear with me. Sorry to put all this info in my blog and not in the invitation, but my business website allows me very little room to type an explanation.

Happy Heart Day Card

I've been gone to a soccer tournament in Ripon for my older son these past few days. There was a four way tie for the wildcard spot and it came down to goal differential. They didn't make it, so he didn't have to play the 8:30am game Tue. I still stayed over with a friend in Modesto and had a good visit.

Anyway, here's the 3rd card we made in class last Fri. It uses a great set that is quite versatile, as well as retiring colors, paper, cs and accessories.

Supplies:

sets - happy heart day

cs - chocolate chip, whisper white, baja breeze, urban garden dsp

ink - basic gray and baja breeze pads, celery, apricot, blush blossom, black, sahara sand markers

access - button bouquet, ss brads, mini glue dots, dimensionals, celery polytwill ribbon, aqua painter, scallop edge punch

Birdie card for Technique Class

Ok, I know I've said it a gazzillion times, but I love A Little Birdie Told Me stamp set that's retiring. This card is a little more masculine looking, so I'm saving it to give to my brother for his birthday. It's a Z-fold card which isn't hard to do, but adds a lot of interest. Have you checked out all the retiring sets? You don't want to miss out. Let me know if I can order anything for you. have a great day!

Supplies:
sets - a little birdie told me, celebrate everything, on your birthday
cs - night of navy, basic gray, whisper white, urban garden dsp
ink - night of navy craft pad, not quite navy & kiwi kiss classic pads
access - sponge daubers, clear embossing powder, embossing buddy, heat tool, SAMJ, post-it-notes or scrap paper for masking

Sneak Peak at Technique Class Card

I think the Zoofari set is so fun! I saw this card (with different colors) on SU's demonstrator website well over a year ago. I love that I can go to their gallery for ideas. This is one of the cards we'll make at my Technique Class with Retiring Sets Fri, 6/12/09. There's a double row of paper piercing from the left edge to the large oval punch out and around the oval. I hope you can see it. It uses the pad-watercoloring technique with three of the retiring In Colors and a special faux knot. I haven't taught this knot yet and i hope my customers like it. The ribbon doesn't go all the way around under the white piece, so it saves on ribbon. If I had thought about it, I could have used black hemp since that's retiring, but then I don't think I could teach the faux knot.

Supplies:
sets - zoofari
cs - pacific point, confetti white
ink - pacific point, tangerine tango, kiwi kiss, basic black pads
access - narrow black grosgrain ribbon, large oval punch, paper piercer and matpack, aquapainters, sponge daubers, corner rounder

Another Birdie Card

This is another card with that set I so love, "A Little Birdie Told Me". My friend Cheryl made it and it was inspired by a card I had made (of which I have no photo)! I love the way the bird is stamped on dsp - no coloring and no cutting it out! Although the inside birdie is colored. And there's a little cutting involved in the "outside the box" technique.

sets - Flowers in Silhouette, Totally Tabs
cs - confetti white, baja breeze, not quite navy, urban garden dsp

June Club Preview

I wanted to do something with retiring sets for Club this month. I chose one of my favorites, A Little Birdie Told Me. I also wanted to show my gals the "roll with the punches" technique that Laura Fredrikson originated. Her technique was featured in SU's magazine for demonstrators, Stampin' Success, a while back. I remember seeing it on her blog long before that. The grassis done with the faux tearing technique, which I've shown in my classes previously. I had so much fun creating this card. Isn't it cute?
Supplies:
sets - A Little Birdie Told Me, On Your Birthday
cs - tempting turquoise, real red, whisper white, so saffron dsp
ink - tempting turquoise pad, green galore pad, real red pad and jumbo ink cartridge, basic black pad & marker, only orange marker
access - Happy Happy Birthday jumbo wheel, crop-a-dile, large red circle eyelets, sponge and sponge daubers, dimensionals, Dotto, paper snips, scrap copy paper
punches - trio flower, tag corner, small and large label, 3/4", 1" and 1-1/4" circles

Last Chance List of Retiring sets is Here!

The Last Chance List of SU's retiring sets came out today. I'm really bummed that they are retiring A Little Birdie Told Me. My friend Cheryl borrowed my set and made this card with it. I just love this set. If you don't have it, you might want to think about getting it before it goes away!
