Christmas Box, practicing

This was actually the first box I made with the Big Shot and my scallop envelope die. I was practicing and made it without the dsp. I wheeled an image instead, after embossing the tree image on the front. The embossed image resists the wheeled ink.

Supplies:
set- patterned pines, x-mas chatter jumbo wheel
cs- confetti white
ink- nqn, ruby red and garden gr craft pads, red jumbo ink cartridge
access- clear ep, red hemp, big shot, scallop env die, sticky strip

Halloween Box

Here's the first of several boxes I made that I will post over the next few days. They were fairly easy to do and easy to get different looks. You start with four scalloped envelopes (from the Big Shot). I cut off the little tabs on two and added sticky strip to the little tabs on the other two. Then you line them all up side by side and attach them together. Adhere a 2-3/16 x 12" strip of dsp to cover the sides. Add ribbon as desired and a focal image to cover the front portion of the box (because the dsp doesn't quite go all the way around). I also added a square of cs inside the bottom of the box (sometimes in the same color as the box and sometimes in a contrasting color). It's a nice sized box.

Supplies:
set- Booglie Eyes
cs- retired halloween dsp, eggplant, olive
ink- black pad
access- white gel pen, olive gg ribbon, black hemp, big shot, scallop env die, sticky strip

Halloween "moving bear" Card

In between 4 soccer games in extremely hot weather, I made this fun card. I'd been wanting to make one since I saw Brent Steele show his "Flying Bear" card at Convention 08. In fact, it's one of the main reasons I bought the "Under the Stars" set! So, almost a year later, I finally made my own version. If you pull the tab at the bottom of the card his arms wave up and down (I attached a pumpkin to one of his arms). It was a little tricky trying to remember how the card was done, especially since I waited so long! Lol. Tip: I colored the bear with colored pencils and then blended them with a creamy caramel marker, it's a little trick I sometimes use.
Supplies:
sets - under the stars, halloween bkgrds, the more the merrier, button bear accessories
cs - blk, vanilla, pumpkin
ink - blk pad, pumpkin pad, creamy caramel marker, wc pencils
access - ee eyelet, crop-a-dile, pumpkin gg ribbon, dimensionals, 1" circle punch, silver brads, 1/16" handheld punch, hobby blade, mat pack & paper piercer, sponge

p.s. My son was in the championship game today, but they lost. They played hard and were 2nd in the tournament! Way to go Ray!

jeanne's b-day card

jeanne's b-day card, originally uploaded by mtmuhl.

This is a card I made for my husband's friend's mother. He attended her 80th b-day party Sat up in Sacramento while I took our son to his soccer tournament. The rose on the front of this card uses a really cool technique that my friend Cheryl and I were trying out the other day. I was trying out some unusual colors and didn't want to use this one for a sample, but didn't want to throw it away either. When our house renovations are done and I can host classes again I will have a class showcasing this technique. It's so awesome! Cheryl already held her class and everyone loved it.

Supplies:
set - fifth avenue floral
cs - shimmery white, nqn
ink - various reinkers, nqn & bemuda bay pads, bermuda bay marker
access - big shot, manhattan flower die, aquapainters, scrap organdy ribbon, dimensionals, paper snips, corner rounder

Granite Ups and Downs

Here are the workers installing granite on the small counter.
Here's our small counter/corkboard wall after the tile was removed and before the wallboard was fixed and the granite installed. Once the granite was installed, it looked beautiful! I didn't get a photo, yet, because. . . .
We had a little fiasco with the counter where the sink is. The workers layed the granite down and it snapped! Ughhh! So, now we still have no sink and no countertops. They are going to fabricate it again and call us Mon to let us know when they will install it.
Tomorrow I'll photograph those boxes I made with the scallop envelope die and the Big Shot and post it. They are too darned cute!

Tie Dyed Petals

This card of Cheryl's uses the Playful Petals set. You won't find it in the catalog, but it is still available; it's on the dormant list. There's a layer of vellum which subdues the background image and really makes the focal image pop! Doesn't it look like it's tie-dyed?

House Renovations - Plumbing Surprises!

We are getting new granite countertops and new wood floors. When they demolished the tile countertops and pulled the sink, they found that the hotwater pipe was corroded. When they went to fix it the pipes, they found the wallboard was mouldy and wet. When they pulled off the wallboard, some of the floor boards had dryrot. Then they found the floor needed jacking up.

Isn't this pretty? Haha. We have a huge hole in the middle of our kitchen!

Well, they fixed the plumbing and the dryroted beams in the walls last night by 8:30pm. This morning they were here at 7:30 am to jack up the floors and put in new subflooring. They also need to add sheetrock to the walls and put the cabinets back so the granite countertops can be installed this afternoon. Hopefully I'll have a picture of the granite countertops tomorrow!
In the meantime I have been making some really cute boxes with my new Big Shot. I hope to post a picture of that soon.
Life is Good. Hope yours is going well! Mary

Eastern Blooms with Micro Beads

I love this card by my friend Cheryl because of the texture. She added clear micro beads to the center of the main flower and to the four corners of the diamond layer.

Blue Medallion

Here's a gorgeous card. It's another Cheryl original. She used the medallion stamp in shades of blue and I just love it!

Poppin Pastels in Bold Brights

Here's a fun card my friend Cheryl made using the medallion stamp and the popping pastels technique. I'm showing her cards this week. Aren't they just great?

Fly Butterfly, Be Free!

Here's another beautiful card by my friend Cheryl. I'll be posting her cards all this week as we start our house renovations and bathroom remodel. The butterfly is cut out and layered over the stamped image so that it looks like it will take flight. The border images are masked. Cheryl said it was a lot of work, but the results are worth it, don''t you think? The set is Simple Friendship, $25.95.

Cheryl's Cool Cards

My friend Cheryl stopped by on Wed to quickly produce a bunch of little leaves with my new Big Shot. She showed me these cards that she made the day before. The first 3 cards use sets from the Holiday Mini Catalog. The last one uses a technique with the shimmery paints. It looks awesome in real life.

We had a great techniques class Thur. I was so proud of myself for designing the cards instead of totally c.a.s.ing everything, lol. Well, I was inspired by this card when I made the Always card. I love the little quails from "Happy Together". Aren't they just the cutest little birds? Caralee embossed the quail in nqn and put it in front of her flower pot instead of the always bird. It was stinking cute!!!! Wish I had gotten a photo to show you.

Peggy's cards - sets: Chic Botique, C is for Cat, A Little Birdie Told Me

Peggy brought in the cat and birdcage cards that she made recently. They are the cutest ever! I'm going to have to restrain myself to not rush out and buy those sets. I love her color combos, clean look and the way she combined the sets.

Sweet Treat Cup Card

This fun Halloween card uses the new sweet treat cups from the mini catalog. My friend Cheryl made this card at a demonstrator event that I missed while I was on vacation. I bought some of these fun cups and can't wait to turn my mental picture into reality. All I'm going to say right now is it involves the bear image from Under the Stars set.

Cheryl's Flower Pot Pocket Card

Here's my friend Cheryl's version of the flower pot pocket card. I showed her how to make these last month and we had a lot of fun playing around with them. These cards are great because you can use them for a variety of cards: thank you, get well, anniversary, birthday, etc. You can use punches, the big shot, hand cut flowers, etc. We've mainly used terra cotta colored pots, but you could easily change the color scheme.

September Club Cards

Below is another, similar, flower pot pocket card where a couple of the flowers were punched with the Big Shot
Our Club kicked off on Sept. 6th and made these two great cards. The yellow-toned Flight of the Butterfly card uses the fun butterfly punch and the Flower Pot Pocket card uses the smallest butterfly from the Big Shot, Beautiful Butterflies die. It's hard to see in the photo, but each of the scallops on the first card is pierced.
Supplies:
1st card:
sets - flight of the butterfly, circle circus
cs - whisper white, so saffron, razzleberry lemonade dsp
ink - pumpkin pie, apricot appeal
access - butterfly & scallop edge punch, 1-3/4" circle punch, mat pack & paper piercer, dimensionals, crushed curry polka dot ribbon, stamp-a-ma-jig (SAMJ)
2nd card:
sets - petal pizzaz, curvy verses
cs - regular & textured dusty durango, vanilla, razzleberry lemonade dsp
ink - crushed curry, dusty durango, old olive
access - dusty durango polka dot ribbon, eyelet border punch, Big Shot, Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die, 1/16" handheld punch, 1/2" circle & scallop circle punches, fire rhiestone circle brad
I visited my friend Cheryl recently and photographed all the cool cards she made at our group meeting (that I was unable to attend). I'll be posting those in the next few days.
Happy Stamping! Mary
p.s. we are doing some house renovations and I think we finally picked all the colors for painting the interior - what a job!

Happy Belated Birthday Daria!

This is a tri-shutter card I made for my friend Daria. I started it at the beginning of Aug, but by the time I finished I had to add a belated birthday greeting! Oh well. They actually aren't that hard to make. I think it's a little easier if you use dsp. Would you like a tutorial? I have an idea for another one, so maybe I'll take photos of the step -by-step process.
Supplies:
stamps - voila, circle circus, on your b-day
cs - yellow, white, various dsp scraps for paper piecing
ink - yo-yo yellow pad and marker, brilliant blue pad and marker, green galore pad, real red pad, pixie pink pad, basic black pad, blush blossom marker, bordering blue marker, only orange marker
